A week from today Zach fractured his ankle as most of you know. He was jumping on the trampoline with his cousins (I was inside) and apparently he said "watch how high I can jump" and then of course he rolled his ankle on the way down. His oldest cousin Payson brought him to me balling. Of course I didn't think anything of it, figured it was a regular boo boo, until I looked down at the ankle and BAM, it was already swelled completely up. Of course I am not the type to run to the ER, so I made him wait it out for about 3 hours (poor guy). He was crying most of the time and NOTHING would console him. Finally watching some cartoons in his Mimi's room helped him for a little bit, but he couldn't move it, walk, or stand-so I figured I better take him in. We took him into the ER and sure enough it was fractured, they gave him some meds and splinted it well. He was asleep before we walked out the door. At least 6 different people asked us over and over what happend, to make sure it wasn't abuse-but they believed us-just doing there job.
After that we had to go to the Orthopedic Surgeon to get it checked. He confirmed it is fractured, doesn't need surgery and he let me decide between a boot or a cast. So of course I went with the boot, had we gotten the cast it would have had to go all the way up past the knee! There was concern because the break is on the growth plate, thankfully it is not that bad, and only 5% of people with a break there (as bad as his) end up having problems, so he thinks his will heal fine. He only has to wear it for 5 weeks, and then we go back to get it checked again!
Zach is doing better with it but still has his days and nights. He just started walking a very little bit, but it tends to make him very sore later. One night he was up from 1AM to 6AM because of the pain, and when I say he was up I mean fully akwake all 5 hours-asking me to rub his boo boo and make it better. I stayed up the whole time, and then when we fell asleep at 6AM Connor woke at 630AM. Needless to say I am gotten very little sleep this last week!
The only thing that really makes him feel better is for "Connor to rub his owie". When he is real sad or in lots of pain his ONLY request is for me to take of his boot and let Connor rub it, it is very sweet.
While it is easier taking him to the store because he can't run off, I am often holding both kids at the same time and having to make multiple trips everywhere, but hey at least I am getting stronger : )
Oh and today I said to Tyler"Hey Zach and I are going to run somewhere real quick" and Zach said almost crying "I can't run though" it was so sad.
I am just so happy it wasn't anything more, and know that I am super blessed to have both my sweet kids safe, healthy, and well!
