Edible Play Dough!

To all my lovely Facebook friends that asked:

So I was REALLY running out of ideas of fun things to do in this cold weather, so I thought, hey lets play with Play Dough. Then I imagined Connor just wanting to put it in his mouth, so I decided it was time to test out some edible Play Dough, and it was a hit! Here are the 3 I tried today and the pros and cons.

1. Kool-Aid Play Dough
1 cup flour
1 cup water
1/2 cup salt
3 teaspoons Cream of Tartar (I don't know if everyone has this around the house but I happened to have it up with my spices so I got lucky!)
1 package Kool-Aid Mix (any flavor of unsweetened)
1 tablespoon cooking oil

Mix dry ingredients together in a large saucepan. Slowly add water mixed with oil and stir over medium heat until mixture thickens to dough. Turn out onto a heatproof bread board or counter top and knead until cool enough for children to handle. Dough will be the color of the Kool-Aid mix and will smell like the Kool-Aid mix. (Can be stored in a tightly covered container for up to six months)

*TIPS: So we did not pour the water in slowly at all because Zach was helping make it-and it was still fine. I had to keep it on medium heat for probably 5 minutes, pretty much continually stirring-it will burn and dry out though so be careful. Most importantly when you dump it all out on the counter use A LOT more flour on the surface and on your hands to knead it until it is the perfect play dough texture.

PROS: It was great play texture, molding well, and just worked perfectly. Easy and fast to make.
CONS: Still taste GROSS. Better than normal play dough, but I would try putting like 2 more packages or Kool-Aide in and see what happens! Connor did try to eat it and didn't like it, but kept going at it, so I guess it wasn't THAT bad. Zach tried it too and said it was gross.

2. Peanut Butter Play Dough

- 1 cup peanut butter
- 1/2 cup honey
- 2 cups powdered sugar

Mix ingredients in a bowl and you’re done! Store in an airtight container or plastic baggie with air sucked out of the bag.

Tips: Spray your 1/2 cup with oil before measuring your honey and the honey will pour much easier. I couldn't just mix it with a spatula, I kneaded it with my hands and used probably 1/2 cup more of powdered sugar to get the texture better.

PROS: Super fast and easy. REALLY REALLY yummy.

CONS: Doesn't mold well and isn't as "play dough" texture like. Definantely can use it like play dough but not near as well as number one, but we still love it-Zach just wanted to make "play dough food" with it and then eat it : )

3.Peanut Butter Play Dough Recipe

- 18 ounces creamy peanut butter
- 6 tablespoons honey
- 1 1/4 cup non-fat dry milk (packet for one quart)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Mix ingredients in a bowl and you’re done! Store in an airtight container or plastic baggie with air sucked out of the bag.

TIPS: Add more dry milk and add more powdered sugar.

PROS: Yummy and Easy!

CONS: I would definitely call this a dessert over play dough. Put it in the refrigerator and dip in chocolate later, because it isn't play dough at all : ) It taste like peanut butter balls without the corn flakes!

That's all I tried today but I look forward to trying these other ones! Here is a cool site I got the first one at! ENJOY! And let me know if you try the other ones and how you liked them!
